Test after sexual intercourse (postcoital test, PCT, Huhner test)During ovulation (usually on the days 12-14 of the cycle) cervical glands must produce a slippery mucus with an appropriate quality and in adequate quantity in order to allow the passage of sperm through the fallopian tubes and to make egg fertilization possible. The PCT serves to verify the normality of this process.
6-8 hours after the sexual intercourse a sample is taken from the mucus that covers the cervix.
During the exam, the collected mucus will be examined based on some relevant aspects (quantity, extensibility, sperm count, presence of antibodies etc.).
The examination is not painful and it is similar to cervical cancer screening.
